World Cup 2022: Wayne Hennessey shown red card during Wales 0-2 Iran

GiveMeSport Football

Wayne Hennessey became the first player to be sent off at the 2022 World Cup during the second half of Wales vs Iran on Friday.

The 35-year-old came flying out of his goal in the 84th minute and took out Mehdi Tarami with a flying kick.

To the astonishment of everyone watching, referee Mario Escobar initially only showed Hennessey a yellow card.

However, VAR intervened and Escobar was invited to review the incident on his pitch-side monitor.

To nobody’s surprise, Hennessey’s yellow card was upgraded to a straight red.
