Trevor Lawrence just pulled off what only one NFL quarterback had done before

En marca

Like Dr. Jekyll controlling his Mr. Hyde, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence overcame a dreadful first half against the Los Angeles Chargers to earn a sensational victory in the first AFC Wild Card game.

Unsure, out of rhythm with his receivers and seemingly terrified to open his first playoff game as a pro, Lawrence was his own monstrous version, his own Mr. Hyde and, by halftime, the outlook looked bleak for fans watching their team being crushed at home.

He showed resilience to the fullest

But his coach Doug Pederson has experience if anything, and something spoke to Lawrence from the moments he was on the bench and in the locker room during halftime. Pederson and the Jaguars coaching staff worked wonders mentally with the team that, by the second half, slowly began to mount a comeback that seemed impossible.

Lawrence showed a mental toughness that few have. He left behind his terrible first half play and gradually gained confidence, making the necessary plays and transformed himself back into his best version, into his Dr. Jekyll.

And he mounted a historic comeback. In the second half, the Jaguars defense only allowed three Chargers points and Lawrence ended up throwing 47 passes, completing 28 for 288 yards and, most importantly, he ended up throwing four TD passes, one with less than 20 seconds left in the second quarter and three more in the second half. From hell to heaven in 30 minutes of play.

In the first half of the game, Lawrence’s numbers were 77 yards, 1 TD and 4 INTs. In the second, 211 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs.

He tied a mark that belonged to Big Ben

Trevor Lawrence’s numbers ranged from the ridiculous to the sublime, but he accomplished what only one QB in history had ever done: throw 4 TDs and 4 INTs in a Playoff game: Ben Roethlisberger, of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Big Ben accomplished it on January 1, 2021 against the Cleveland Browns, who ended up losing 37-48. Lawrence, however, surpassed the legendary Steelers QB because he did get the win.

Another noteworthy stat for Lawrence is that he is still undefeated when playing on a Satur…
