Switzerland 1-0 Cameroon: Breel Embolo nets winner in tight Group G opener

Football 365

Breel Embolo scored the only goal of the game against the country he was born in as Switzerland beat Cameroon 1-0 at the World Cup.

Switzerland had more of the possession in the opening 45 minutes, though the African side did look dangerous on the counter.

There were no clear-cut chances in the first half as both sides went into the break feeling like the game was there for the taking.

However, Cameroon-born striker Embolo opened the scoring three minutes into the second half.

The Swiss knocked the ball around very patiently, going from left to right as veteran winger Xherdan Shaqiri squared the ball for Embolo, who couldn’t miss.

Embolo did not celebrate the goal, but his teammates did.

Ruben Vargas had a golden chance to double his side’s lead, but his strike from close range was well saved by Andre Onana in the Cameroon goal.

Switzerland sit top of Group G with Brazil taking on Serbia later today.
