Saudi Arabia’s Argentina match winner Al-Dawsari has Villarreal past

SPORT

The forward was briefly on loan in LaLiga in 2018, playing against Real Madrid

Salem Al-Dawsari scored the winning goal for Saudi Arabia as they remarkably came from behind to beat Lionel Messi’s Argentina 2-1 at the World Cup on Tuesday.

Al-Dawsari’s strike was a brilliant goal, cutting in on the edge of the area, escaping from two defenders and then launching a shot that found the top corner of the goal.

The Saudi forward who can play on the left, right or in midfield, wears the No.10 shirt for his country and has been a member of the national team since 2012. He is one of the Saudi Arabia’s most outstanding players.

Curiously, he made his debut for the national team under the orders of Frank Rijkaard and has since accumulated 72 games and 18 goals.

Another interesting detail from his career is that he is one of the only Saudis to have played in Europe. He joined Villarreal in 2018, but his stay in Spain only lasted six months. He played just 33 minutes — against Real Madrid.

After his experience in the Spanish league, he returned to Al Hilal, where he has made more than 300 appearances and scored 73 goals.
