Two of the biggest attributes Raheem Sterling holds in his arsenal are his ability to navigate out of tight situations while in possession and his electric pace that has seen him leave countless defenders in his wake.

After likely being understudy as the fastest player at Manchester City throughout his spell at the Etihad Stadium to Kyle Walker, Sterling looked set to hold the crown at Chelsea following his summer move, but apparently that is not the case.

Speaking to UMM, Sterling revealed that Armando Broja is the quickest player at Chelsea, describing him rather emphatically as the ‘fastest man in the world’. Chelsea fans are yet to properly see Broja at his best after the 21-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge following a positive loan spell at fellow Premier League club Southampton.

Broja scored nine goals for the Saints, which included an immense purple patch in January where he scored four goals and grabbed one assist in nine games.

Following the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Broja has appeared for only 286 minutes in the Premier League but has been picked by Graham Potter to start the Blues last two games.

Broja scored his first Chelsea goal in the 3-0 win over Wolves and although Chelsea supporters have not seen much of the 21-year-old, those at the club have seen enough to award Broja with a new long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2028.

Offering Broja a bumper six-year contract indicates that Chelsea are very much of the belief he has a bright future in the game and after losing many stars who have gone on to excel elsewhere, including Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah and most-recently Jamal Musiala, Chelsea clearly did not want the same outcome occurring with Broja.

The Chelsea hierarchy aren’t the only ones to notice Broja’s quality as his Chelsea team-mate Sterling has also been quick to signal him out for praise.

“I can’t lie, I’ve been telling my friends outside the club that he’s (Armando Broja) the next one,” Sterling said.

“It’s him. I’ve heard a lot of things about him without ever really watching him. But he’s the truth.”
