Portugal 3-2 Ghana: Cristiano Ronaldo and co. survive late fight back to win World Cup opener

Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty was one of five second half goals as Portugal edged out Group H rivals Ghana to win their World Cup opener.

The focus was on Cristiano Ronaldo in the build-up to Portugal’s World Cup opener after it was announced that he has left Man Utd.

The 37-year-old had a goal ruled out for a foul in the first half but he did open the scoring from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.

Ronaldo smashed the ball home after being brought down in the penalty area by Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu.

This goal brought Ghana to life and Andre Ayew equalised from close range just eight minutes later.

Portugal looked to have taken the game away from Ghana soon after though as Joao Felix and Rafael Leao both netted in the space of two minutes.

Ghana did not lie down though as Osman Bukari headed the ball home before the sides played out nine minutes of stoppage time.
