The Ousmane Dembele contract saga might finally be coming to an end, with the Frenchman looking poised to leave Barcelona on a Bosman deal.
The 25-year-old’s contract situation has been the talk of the town for much of the second half of the 2021/22 season. At first, talks had been completely ceased between the club and the player after he rejected an offer and refused to leave the club in January.
But the discussions were restarted after he put on some fine displays under Xavi Hernandez. Multiple meetings were held between Mateu Alemany and Dembele’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, but a resolution has not been reached as of yet.
Sissoko issued a statement on Friday stating that the French international is yet to decide on his future. However, according to the latest report from Mundo Deportivo, there may be a major development in the situation.
As per the report, Dembele is close to reaching a contract agreement with Premier League giants Chelsea, with a Bosman move to Stamford Bridge now looming large.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel worked with the French international at Borussia Dortmund and was able to get the best out of him at Signal Iduna Park. Talks of a reunion have been mooted since January, but things had gone quiet due to the club being sanctioned.
However, Chelsea confirmed that a takeover is complete with the consortium led by Todd Boehly becoming the new owners. And, with that sorted, the sanctions will be lifted and the Blues can once again indulge in transfer activities.
