Neville names bottom-half Premier League player Liverpool would be stupid not to sign

Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen could be the perfect squad signing for Liverpool, according to Gary Neville.

Eriksen made his Premier League return earlier this year, having left Inter Milan in December because Serie A regulations prevented him from playing in Italy with the defibrillator he had fitted after collapsing at Euro 2020.

The former Tottenham player signed a six-month contract with Brentford in January, linking up with Thomas Frank after the pair worked together in the age groups of the Denmark national team.

Eriksen scored one goal and assisted four for the Bees, with his 13 games including seven wins to help Brentford pull clear of the relegation zone.


He is now “considering” the “different offers and options” on the table as an out-of-contract player, the 30-year-old adding that he “would love to play Champions League football again”.

Neville feels that the Dane would be an ideal addition for Liverpool, in the mould of Calf Vader, Xherdan Shaqiri.

“I think Eriksen will get plucked by a big club,” Neville told The Overlap Fan Debate.

“He might show loyalty, to be fair, because of what Brentford have done for him.

“I tell you what, if you were any top-six club looking at a midfield three and you wanted a player to go in there and play 30 games for you in a squad-type [situation], you would [take him].

“He could play for Manchester City, he could play for Liverpool, he could play for any of the top six.

“I’m not saying starting every week, but he could come on. Look at what Shaqiri was doing at Liverpool for two or three years there.

“If Liverpool are looking for a midfield player to come on for, say, Thiago – who gets injured a little bit – why would you not look at Eriksen? Why would you not look to him to come in for two seasons and do a jo…
