Kylian Mbappe, PSG, 2021/22

Monaco are set to be massive benefactors from Kylian Mbappe signing a new contract with PSG.

The Ligue 1 side brought the World Cup winner through their academy and it was with the Stade Louis II side that Mbappe made his senior debut, breaking Thierry Henry’s record for being their youngest player and scorer in the process.

In his first full season in Monaco’s first team, he led the club to a famous title success and was subsequently loaned to PSG with a purchase option that was virtually compulsory. When he eventually completed his permanent move to the Parc des Princes side, they paid €145 million up front, making Mbappe the most expensive teenager in history.

Now their former protégé has signed a new contract with PSG – spectacularly turning his back on Real Madrid in the process – he has landed them another enormous windfall.

RMC reports that Mbappe’s fresh deal at Parc des Princes is worth a staggering €35 million to Monaco.

Monaco had been set for nothing

Indeed, documents obtained by Football Leaks show that the deal initially brokered between the clubs specified that this payment would only be made if the footballer either signed a new deal or was transferred to another club. Had he left PSG for free, it would not have been eligible to be paid.

This is a huge sum of money …
