Man Utd sticking with 275k-a-week star at Old Trafford

Manchester United are ‘sticking with’ underperforming winger Jadon Sancho ‘for now’ in the hope that he improves, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old has struggled to showcase his true ability throughout his time with the Red Devils, although it appears he still has the faith of manager Erik ten Hag at this moment in time.

What is the latest news involving Sancho?

United signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in a £73 million deal back in July 2021 following a year-long pursuit.

However, the England international started just 20 Premier League games in his maiden campaign for the Old Trafford outfit as he was unable to hit the ground running in his new environment.

And Sancho’s woes have continued in the current campaign, with Ten Hag admitting he ‘wasn’t happy’ with his performance against Omonia Nicosia, leading to his substitution.

“It [the goal] was not what I wasn’t happy with, it was the movement with our ball,” explained the Dutch tactician. “The width on the left side, for me, was no good first-half – the movement from behind the defending line.”

Sancho was subsequently left out of England’s 26-player squad for the World Cup, and he has taken a break from social media in a bid to regain his best form on the pitch.

What has Jones said about Sancho?

Jones believes that United are retaining their faith in Sancho that they expect that he ‘can come good’ in the ‘second half of the season.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “If United did seriously look to sign someone in Sancho’s position, then it obviously would throw his future into doubt.

“We all know he’s had an up and down season, but from what I’m told, United are sticking with him for now and hope that in the second half of the season, he can come good.”

How has Sancho performed for Man Utd?

Sancho established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the game at Dortmund, registering 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 appearances across all competitions.

Nevertheless, at United, the creative talent has only found the back of the net on eight occasions in 52 outings, setting up a further four strikes for his teammates.
