Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could overcome the Cristiano Ronaldo ‘disaster’ by luring Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe to Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils mutually agreed to terminate the 37-year-old’s contract, following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, on Tuesday.

What’s the latest news involving Mbappe?

According to the Mirror, Mbappe has emerged as a shock target for Manchester United after beginning their search for a Ronaldo replacement and they are aiming to steal a march on his other suitors by attempting to reach an agreement when the transfer window reopens in January.

The report suggests the Red Devils are able to pay upwards of £150million for the 59-cap France international, while they could also put a contract worth £500,000-per-week on the table.

Mbappe only penned a new three-year deal with PSG in May, but there have been doubts over his Parc des Princes future in recent weeks.

That is because it emerged last month that the 23-year-old is seeking a move away from the French capital at the turn of the year, although he has since denied wanting to secure a quickfire exit.

It is understood that PSG angered Mbappe when they failed to pay the entirety of his wages at the end of September.

What has Dean Jones said about Mbappe?

Jones believes Manchester United could make the high-profile Ronaldo situation more bearable by securing Mbappe’s services.

The journalist feels the striker would make the Red Devils a major force in every competition – including the Champions League – and excite the fanbase.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It would help make up for this disaster over Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It would put them back in that conversation for winning every serious trophy there is.”
