Leeds United would be signing a player that’s a “really nice fit” for their squad if they land Takumi Minamino this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Minamino has only been on the fringes of the Liverpool squad this term, but Jones has suggested that things would be different should he move to Elland Road.

What’s the latest news involving Minamino?

The 27-year-old started just one game for Liverpool in the top-flight this season as he found himself behind the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in the pecking order.

He is likely to depart Anfield this summer, and Leeds are showing interest in the forward, as reported by the Anfield Watch.

The same report claims the Yorkshire outfit were also keen on Minamino in January, but he opted to stay at Liverpool.

Leeds may fancy their chances of signing him now, though, with Liverpool slapping a £17m price-tag on the attacker.

What has Jones said about Minamino potentially joining Leeds?

Despite his lack of game time, Minamino still chipped in with three league goals in 2021/22, including in his most recent appearance against Southampton.

He also found the net seven times in cup competitions, with Jurgen Klopp labelling him as “top-class“, and Jones feels he would be a good addition to Jesse Marsch’s team.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Minamino, Jones said: “I think he’s a really nice fit, actually. Minamino is not a bad player at all, he’s just been a victim of Liverpool’s success in a way. He just hasn’t been as good as Jota and Diaz when they’ve come in.

“We saw him against Southampton, what he can still do. I think that Jesse Marsch has a philosophy that Minamino fits in well with. He works hard, he follows orders. It could be a really intriguing one.”
