Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has slammed the decision to award Portugal a penalty against Ghana – and thinks the lack of VAR intervention before Cristiano Ronaldo’s spot kick was ‘scary’.
Portugal beat Ghana 3-2 in their World Cup opener, with Ronaldo netting from the spot after going down under a challenge from Mohammed Salisu.
Many viewers disagreed with the decision, thinking Salisu got the ball and that Ronaldo went down easily. And Dean agrees with them.
