Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on England youngster Jude Bellingham, likening him to Three Lions greats Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

At just 19 years of age, Bellingham has established himself as one of the finest midfield players in Europe. Indeed, his form for Borussia Dortmund of late has highlighted the star power he possesses.

In 22 games in all competitions for the club this season, he has scored nine goals and provided three assists. His consistent performances have helped him into Gareth Southgate’s starting XI for the World Cup.

Former England midfielder Redknapp feels the youngster can emulate the careers of some England greats.

Indeed, the Dortmund midfielder had not scored for the Three Lions before his World Cup debut.

However, in the form he is currently in, it did not take long for him to change that. The 19-year-old struck England’s opener against Iran in the 35th minute, and continued to have a starring role throughout the game.

Bellingham’s was a complete performance, that afforded him an 8.4 rating from WhoScored – which, for a 19-year-old’s World Cup debut, is not to be sniffed at.

This season has already been a sensational one for the midfielder, and a good World Cup could raise his stock even more.
