Chelsea target Kalidou Koulibaly could head to Stamford Bridge for a cut-price fee and ‘offer good value’ in the summer window, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The west Londoners are set to head into a new era as the government has approved the £4.25billion takeover by a consortium led by Todd Boehly.

What’s the latest news involving Koulibaly?

According to Italian media outlet Area Napoli, Koulibaly’s agent is looking to force through a summer move from Napoli when the transfer window reopens for business next month.

The report suggests Chelsea are among the 59-cap Senegal international’s admirers and willing to offer a lucrative contract while it is hoped a £30million deal could be sealed, but they are facing competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League rivals.

Koulibaly will enter the final 12 months of his £183,000-per-week Napoli contract in a matter of weeks, meaning his current employers are in a precarious position and the upcoming window could be one of their final opportunities to cash-in.

Despite that, Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti has claimed the Serie A side cannot afford to sell the central defender.

Spalletti’s desire to hold onto Koulibaly should not come as a surprise as he made 34 appearances this season, underlining how he is a key figure in Napoli’s backline.

What has Dean Jones said about Koulibaly?

Jones understands Koulibaly may be on the market for a lower fee than what Napoli were previously seeking.

The transfer insider feels the 30-year-old would be a valuable addition to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel’s defensive options.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s a feeling from a few people I speak to that he actually might be available at quite good value now.

“There have been times when Koulibaly has been talked about as an £80million defender, but it’s probably half that at this point.

“I think that Koulibaly could actually offer good value for a top, top quality defender.”
