Chelsea: 150k-a-week star’s future ‘up in the air’ at Stamford Bridge

GiveMeSport Football

Chelsea will have ‘a decision to make’ regarding the future of Christian Pulisic, depending on his performances at the World Cup, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The attacking midfielder may have his future at Stamford Bridge brought into question by head coach Graham Potter due to inconsistent displays for the Blues.

What is the latest news involving Pulisic?

Since Potter’s arrival in the Chelsea dugout, rumours have developed surrounding Pulisic’s future at the club, with Todo Mercado Web detailing Newcastle United as potential suitors, in a deal that may amount to £38m.

A potential move away from west London could come sooner rather than later as Spanish sources indicate that a deal could be done in January amid reported interest from Serie A sides Juventus and Inter Milan, with the 24-year-old wanting more game time.

The American may look to put himself in the shop window during the World Cup, and his side commenced proceedings in Group B with a 1-1 draw against Wales on Monday night.

What has Jones said about Pulisic?

Jones believes that Pulisic’s place in the Chelsea squad is uncertain due to his previous form and indicates that Potter will be keen to see how he develops during his World Cup campaign.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Pulisic’s future is up in the air for sure.

“He hasn’t proven that he can consistently perform and Chelsea will have a close eye on this World Cup to see whether that’s any different on a different platform, but certainly they’ve got a decision to make there.“

Do Chelsea really need Pulisic?

Hailed as a ‘big talent’ by Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch, the 53-cap United States international has displayed, in bursts, his ability during his time at Chelsea, since sealing a deal for £58m in January 2019.

However, the attacker’s most prosperous campaign in front of goal in a blue shirt was his first one in 2019/20, in which he registered nine goals and six assists in 25 appearances.

Game time has sometimes been hard to come by, given the breadth of the Blues’ attacking options, and despite featuring in 13 Premier League games this season, he has only amassed 414 minutes on the pitch, less than five games’ worth of minutes in action.
