Bayern Munich faces anxious wait on injury of Noussair Mazraoui

Bayern Strikes

The World Cup 2022 has started on a very poor note for Bayern Munich as Lucas Hernandez ruptured his ACL against Australia on Tuesday. The French defender’s season has most likely come to an end as he undergoes surgery in the next few days and begins a long recovery process.

After Hernandez’s injury on Tuesday, Die Roten suffered another blow on Wednesday. Noussair Mazraoui was stretchered off during the game between Morocco and Croatia. The 25-year-old full-back may end up missing the remaining games of the tournament.

However, early suggestion in Germany gives some sort of relief to the Bavarian faithful. According to Kicker (via iMiaSanMia), Mazraoui’s injury is not going to keep him on the sidelines for a long time. The full diagnosis of his injury is yet to be relieved by the Moroccan team.

Noussair Mazraoui became a key player for Bayern in the last few weeks before the World Cup break. He had a slow start to the season as Julian Nagelsmann largely used Benjamin Pavard in the right-back role. Mazraoui slowly and steadily got used to the Bundesliga and started showing a good level of consistency in his performances.

It will be a cruel blow for the former Ajax right-back if this injury keeps him on the sidelines for a long time. Die Roten has good quality depth in the right-back position. Pavard has excelled in this role over the last four years. Josip Stanisic provides further cover in this position, but Mazraoui is much better than Stanisic and Pavard in the final third.

Bayern will hopefully get a complete update on Mazraoui in the coming hours. Noussair Mazraoui is definitely ruled out for the game against Belgium on Sunday. The Moroccan team will be hoping that the injury is minor and he recovers in time for the final group game against Canada on December 1.
