Frenkie de Jong’s situation at Barcelona continues to be a quandary. The 25-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked with an exit heading into the summer transfer window.
Signed from AFC Ajax in the summer of 2019, de Jong has become a mainstay in the middle of the park at Camp Nou. However, he had an up and down season last time out, while he was briefly unsettled after the sacking of Ronald Koeman as well.
It has led to speculations over his future, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain interested in signing the Netherlands international in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, though, has maintained that de Jong is a part of his plans moving forward but insists that given the club’s financial situation, a sale could possibly happen.
However, as per a fresh report from Catalunya Radio, de Jong will not leave Barcelona for economic difficulties at the club. If anything, the midfield mainstay would be departing Camp Nou for sporting reasons.
De Jong, for his part, has shown no indication that he wants to leave the club. He recently took to social media to reiterate his commitment to the Blaugrana.
