As per a report from journalist Tomas Gonzalez-Martin, superagent Jorge Mendes has offered Barcelona a chance to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio on a five-year contract.
Asensio is in the final year of his contract at Real Madrid and there have been claims that Barça are closely monitoring his situation as they believe he can be a valuable addition to the roster, who will arrive on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old winger, for his part, left the door open for a transfer to Barcelona in a recent interview, fueling the speculations further.
Now, it is being claimed that Mendes is already making his moves behind the scenes and has offered Barcelona an opportunity to negotiate a five-year contract with Asensio in January, when he enters the last six months of his deal at Real Madrid.
The report even claims that the Portuguese superagent had already taken Asensio’s profile to Barcelona during the summer transfer window itself after contract talks with the Merengues had broken down due to his wage demands.
However, Barça president Joan Laporta declined a move at the time as the Catalans were working on other signings while they also felt that Real Madrid would prize them out of a move. Furthermore, the club supremo did not want to upset his relationship with his Real Madrid counterpart, Florentino Perez.
Hence, Laporta is believed to have told Mendes that he would consider a move for Asensio if the Spaniard would become available for free.
