Aston Villa 2-0 Leeds United: Bailey, Buendia score as Villans win despite Leeds dominance

Football 365

Aston Villa hit Leeds United on the counter twice to make them pay for not turning their dominance into goals as Unai Emery’s side beat the Whites 2-1.

Leon Bailey handed the Villans a lead in the third minute via a counter attack with Leeds looking like they were in for a long evening.

They responded very well and had a few chances to score before half-time.

Aston Villa fans were introduced to new signing Alex Moreno earlier than expected when he replaced the injured Lucas Digne in the first 10 minutes.

Leeds forward Rodrigo thought he had equalised for the visitors but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Jesse Marsch’s side continued to play well in the second 45 minutes but were again hit on the counter when Emi Buendia latched onto Bailey’s powerful shot to head past a helpless Ilian Meslier, who got a hand on the ball.

The goal was initially disallowed for offside, but was then given.

Leeds once again responded well and Patrick Bamford grabbed his first goal of the season after some great work by Wilfried Gnonto, who had a brilliant game.

Ironically, Leeds did not respond well to the goal they scored, making Villa potentially grow in confidence in the final seven minutes before stoppage time.

Gnonto continued …
