Arsenal told to sign brilliant Chelsea star but pundit highlights a potential stumbling block

Arsenal have been encouraged to sign Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante next summer when his contract at Stamford Bridge expires.

The Frenchman has already enjoyed a phenomenal career. He was part of the Leicester City team that defied all odds to win the Premier League in 2015/16.

That was his debut season in England and his form that term earned him a £32m move to Chelsea.

Kante has continued to shine as a Chelsea player as he lifted the Premier League again in 2016/17.

The Carabao Cup is the only trophy that has evaded Kante during his time at Stamford Bridge. He has won the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

The centre-midfielder has been fortunate with injuries during his career but he missed a few games last term.

And this season he has only played twice in total as he has been impacted by a muscle injury.

His future at Chelsea is in doubt as his current contract is due to expire in 2023.

Earlier this week, Blues boss Graham Potter revealed that he was not involved in talks with Kante over a new deal:

“My focus at the moment is to help rehabilitate N’Golo in a good way so he’s available for us, because when he’s on the pitch he’s a huge asset for us,” said Potter.

“The other stuff is between the club and him. My focus is to help him get fit, get him enjoying his football, because there’s not many players in world football like NG.

“So the quicker he’s back for us the better. So that’s where I’ll leave my focus.”

Potter added: “It’s hard to replace someone like NG, he’s a world-class player and any team that loses him will suffer a little bit.

“So it’s up to other players to take the step up and find the solutions. There are a lot of games now and we have limited time on the training pitch.

“But if I look at the options we’ve got, there isn’t a direct replacement so I’ve got to find the right one.”

Kante has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur of late.

Darren Bent thinks Arsenal should go for the experienced midfielder but Mikel Arteta may feel that he is “too old”:

“I don’t think it would ever happen because for what Arteta’s trying to build, Kante is too old,” Bent told Read more – Football 365
