Arsenal ‘ready’ to rival Chelsea for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo as transfer decision made

Arsenal are ‘ready’ to rival Chelsea for Brighton talent Moises Caicedo as both London teams look to sign a new midfielder. According to the Evening Standard, the 21-year-old wanted to move to Stamford Bridge but was not willing to force a move from Brighton, and Chelsea are increasingly resigned to missing out on the Ecuador international this month.

The Blues have already spent in excess of £100million this month, whilst Arsenal have signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton and Jakub Kiwior from Spezia for under £50million. Chelsea and the Gunners look set to go head-to-head in the transfer market with both London clubs identifying the same players as the perfect additions for their respective squads.

Whether Arsenal can get revenge on the Blues for missing out on Mudryk and convince Caicedo to join them despite Chelsea’s financial power, remains to be seen.

Arsenal and Chelsea can secure Amadou Onana transfer after Everton sack Frank Lampard

Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing Everton star Amadou Onana after Frank Lampard was sacked. Graham Potter and Mikel Arteta are looking to sign a new central midfielder to bolster their respective squads heading into the second half of the season.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the departure of Lampard paired with Everton’s need to raise money could see Onana leave Goodison Park in January. The 21-year-old midfielder joined the Toffees in August after completing a £30million move to Merseyside from Lille.

Tavolieri states that both Arsenal and Chelsea have expressed an interest in the Belgian midfielder who has impressed in the short time spent at Everton. Nieuwsblad journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen has backed up Tavolieri’s claim and revealed that the only factor influencing Onana’s potential transfer exit is whether Everton would want to sanction a deal that would see the 21-year-old leave just four months after joining the club.

Granit Xhaka delivers major Mikel Arteta verdict as Arsenal star wins prestigious award

Arsenal star Granit Xhaka has been named Swiss Footballer of the Year after emerging as one of Mikel Arteta’s key players this season. Xhaka’s time at the Emirates Stadium seemed to be over prior to Arteta’s arrival but the Swiss midfielder’s redemption arc has been nothing short of incredible.

At the ceremony in Switzerland, Xhaka said: “It makes me brutally proud. It is a special award for the many work of the past few years in the club and in the national team, but Manuel [Akanji] and Yann [Sommer] deserved it just as much.”

When asked about being absent from Arsenal training to collect the award, the Gunners star responded: “I landed on Monday morning and I’m flying back to London on Tuesday morning. I’ll be training again on Tuesday morning.

“Of course I got permission from the coach. I very much appreciate this consent. Not every coach does that, because on Friday we’re already playing again in the cup at Man City. It definitely shows his appreciation.

“But I’m not going to party anyway. Nothing is going on in Switzerland on a Monday evening (laughs). I proudly accepted the invitation and from Tuesday I’ll be focusing on training and the next game again.”
